How to Make a Progress Video From Daily Photos (Step by Step)

Turn 30, 60 or 90 days of daily photos into a short transformation video: what to shoot, how to line photos up, and how to export for Reels and TikTok.

A progress video is the most satisfying thing a photo habit produces: weeks of small changes played back in a few seconds. Here is how to make one that looks good.

Step 1: Shoot for the video from day 1

The video is only as good as the photos. Decide now:

  • A fixed spot. The same wall, mirror or corner.
  • The same framing. Mark the floor where you stand; prop the phone at the same height.
  • Similar light. Same time of day, same window.
  • Portrait orientation (9:16) if you plan to post to Reels, Shorts or TikTok.

Step 2: Shoot every day you keep the promise

Consistency is what makes the sequence smooth. A skipped day is fine, but a daily habit gives the film its rhythm. Tie the photo to something you already do so you will remember it.

Step 3: Pick the length

Use the rule seconds = photos ÷ frames per second or the timelapse calculator. Aim for 7 to 30 seconds. At 10 fps, 75 photos run 7.5 seconds.

Step 4: Choose the photos

If you have more photos than frames, sample evenly across the range (every 2nd or 3rd day) so the whole story is told. Always keep the first and the last day.

Step 5: Assemble

You can do this manually in a video editor: import the photos, set each to the same duration, and export. Or let an app do the editing. In Safar, open Reels, choose a promise (or all of them), set your date range, pick a style (Impact, Slide, Tile, Reveal, Drift or Panels) and tap Compile. It selects photos evenly across your dates and renders a vertical film with the Safar mark.

Step 6: Post it well

  • Lead with the payoff. Put the strongest "after" in the first second, or start with a text hook like "12 days. 12 photos."
  • Keep it vertical, under 15 seconds.
  • Add captions for people watching without sound.
  • Add music inside the platform so you can use its licensed audio.
  • Say the day count in the caption: "Day 60 of showing up."

Common mistakes

  • Changing the framing mid-way, which makes the video jump.
  • Mixing light, which makes it flicker.
  • Making it too long. Seven seconds that loop beat 40 that drag.

Start tomorrow's photo today. The video is just the days added up.
